When you’re working as a caregiver for elderly relatives it can be hard to get enough time to make healthy food – for you and for them. Fortunately, there are plenty of quick and easy healthy snack options that won’t take up much of your time and that still taste great. Here are three you can make right away:

1. Salads

There are all types of salads available. Whether you fix one yourself or buy them in the bag, there are plenty of options to consider. Some brands even come with croutons, dressing, and other items right in the bag. That makes it fast and easy to prepare a healthy snack you can enjoy without guilt, and something you and your elderly parents or other relatives can enjoy together.

2. Fresh Fruit and Veggies

It’s always good to make sure you and your loved ones are getting enough fruit and veggies. Our home health aides can even provide you with nutritional counseling if you’re not sure what to choose or how much your family should be eating. Everyone’s needs are different, and it’s also important to find fruit and vegetable options your elderly parents will like and want to eat.

3. Cheese and Crackers

Unless you’re caregiving for someone who is lactose intolerant, or who doesn’t eat dairy products, cheese and crackers can be a quick and easy snack to enjoy. Cheese can be high in fat, but that’s not necessarily a bad choice – especially if your elderly relatives have lost weight as they’ve aged. Whole wheat crackers or another type that provides more fiber and nutritional value are also good choices, and can be a great choice for an afternoon snack while relaxing around the house.
