Old age has the hard-earned wisdom youth often lacks. Even though strength, vigor, and energy are with the young, wisdom is with the older. This article will see into what makes happy older people the way they are. Namely, it’s not left to chance that one old person should feel happy, while another is unhappy. There are rituals and states of mind that happy old people perform and feel, and which helps them keep young at heart.

What might these lessons be? What can you as a younger person, or even you as an older, unhappy person, learn from the happy old people? Well there are a few things well worth keeping in mind.

First of all, the tendency is for most old people to pay little attention to the unimportant things in life. If I were to get a penny for every person worrying incessantly over small, insignificant events and projections that they think are true when they really aren’t… I’d be a billionaire by now.

Old people through the hard earned wisdom we’ve mentioned have learned that it’s absolutely harmful to focus on small unimportant stuff. They can thus easily refocus their attention to the stuff where they can really make a difference. And this can make a huge difference in how they perceive the world and in how they feel consequently.

Next off old people are generally retired after a long time working in their lives. The sad truth is that most people do what they have to do in order to survive, and thus they feel satisfied with mediocre jobs which they don’t like. Once they retire they find the freedom they once lost yet again, and they are free to do whatever they want with their free time. They then easily find hobbies and work projects whose sole component isn’t the financial aspect. They do work that makes them feel like they make a difference, and one that they enjoy pretty much. This shows in their level of health and vitality, and in how great and energetic they feel despite their age.

This touches on a sensitive subject though. There’s nothing worse than feeling like you can’t make any difference in the world, and that the people around you think that you’ll die soon enough. This is what many old people face daily. So if you happen to be around old people, do your best to show them that they too can participate and bring new stuff to the table, for many aspects of life.
